Basketball, Seinfeld, and a severe distaste for Quentin Tarantino

The Westchester music scene has never really been that much of a scene, but I think if Scotty Brooks Campaign has any say in the matter, it'll be one of the most rockingest and rollingest scenes around. They rock in a Weezer kinda way, but with (in my opinion) a lot more attitude. They have tons of mp3's on their site, and if I were you, I'd download 'em all, just like I did. This interview was done through email, and everyone who speaks is pretty much labled clearly. Rock on.

Who are you and what do you do in the band?

Chris: Chris. I sing and play guitar.

Robert: Robert, Drums, locks, and pecs.

Sean: Sean, play bass.

Who is Scotty Brooks, and what is he campaigning?

Robert: Short, slow ex- NBA player who actually was on a few championship teams. In our campaign we might be celebrating the accomplishments of those who rise to greatness on the coattails of others, but maybe not.

Sean: He isn't campaigning anything, we are. To be #1 on TRL.

Chris: I prefer to think that Scotty Brooks is the slow white guy with a decent outside jump shot that lives inside all of us

How long has the SBC been a band for?

Robert: We love each other so much it seems like only five minutes, then the weed wears off and we realize its been a few years.

Sean: Two years.

Chris: I think it will be three years this coming summer.

In that time, what have you released?

Sean: A lot of sperm

Chris: Once a week we break into a local kennel and release all of the animals.

Rob: No "official" releases yet, but many of the more personal kind.

Chris: We have released a bunch of demos. They are on our webite. (scottybrookscampaign.com)

I don't know if you guys are comic book fans or not, but for my entire life, all I ever wanted was to be Wolverine. Even for like a day. Shit, if I could just have his claws for 5 minutes I’d be happy. If you could be any comic book character, who would it be?

Robert: Yes, even though he spoke like some fucking Renaissance fair reject and he was a total pussy without his hammer, my favorite was the Mighty Thor. Other faves: Spiderman (he was from Queens! and got lots of ass, not an easy accomplishment), and Luke Cage. I was a Marvel comic fucking fanatic but it has slightly warped my view towards the opposite sex. If she doesn't compare to Daredevil's chick with the outfit and whatnot, I don't even want to know her.

Sean: Spider-man.

Chris: I wouldn’t mind being Archie. Weren’t both Veronica AND Betty into him? That’s not bad.

Don’t you think it's kind of weird that McDonalds has something called a "fish" sandwich? Like, would you eat something called a "meat" sandwich?

Sean: No, and sure.

Robert: Sean and Chris would eat that shit, they'd eat fucking five each, maybe I'm not as manly.

Chris: At the risk of sounding homophobic, I think I might have to steer clear of something called a “meat” sandwich. I think the McDonalds corporation is shrewd enough to understand this. They do have a chicken sandwich, which is named just that.

Have you seen Kill Bill (if no, feel free to skip this question. If yes, feel free to agree with me that it’s the sickest fucking movie ever)?

Robert: The guy with the giant fucking mouth and annoying mug who did the movie taints any positive feelings I may have had about Kill Bill, the little Asian chick with that swinging metal death ball was worth the money though.

Sean: No.

Chris: Baclay’s brother cracked open our X-Box and loaded it up with a bunch of bootleg stuff, including Kill Bill, but whenever I go near that thing, I end up playing Mike Tyson’s Punch Out on the Nintendo emulator. So, no I have not seen it. I do agree with Robert’s feelings about Tarantino, though.

What do you guys do when you’re not in the band? Like, what pays the bills?

Sean: Bartend.

Chris: Teach.

More and more young kids getting into punk rock: good or bad?

Robert: I don't know what punk is anymore, go ask some rich kid begging for change.

Chris: I don’t think I could put it any better than Rob did, without going into a long, bitter-old-guy-type rant. Maybe I’ll write one up and submit it as an article.

Sean: It’s both good and bad.

What do you think about this resurgence of “rock” bands, and all the “The” bands?

Chris: We think of Scotty Brooks Campaign as a rock band, so I guess a rock resurgence would be good. As far as the “The” thing goes, I actually like a couple of them quite a bit. I wont tell you which ones, though.

Sean: Not much. I don’t harness any negative energy. I dispose of it when the Campaign rocks out.

So what bands (or other things) influence SBC? I hear a lot of different stuff when I listen to the record, but tell me what gets the "creative juices" flowing so to speak.

Robert: A pound of your finest cheeba and anything Keith Thornton has worked on.

Sean: Our long time friendship. We're very open with each other, probably b/c we've been best friends for so long.

Chris: By the way, that’s a beautiful answer, Sean. Music-wise, there are so many, so I’ll go to the “other”: Fast Times At Ridegmont High, Fletch, Vacation, My Blue Heaven, MST 3K, The Onion, New York Knicks and Walt “Clyde” Frazier…see, even this list is getting too long.

Any upcoming shows you want to mention?

Sean: Yeah, Sienfeld @ 6:30&7:00 on TBS, 7:30 on Fox, 8:00 & 8:30 back on TBS

Chris: There is this wonderful antique show at the Jacob Javet’s Convention Center in December. Plus, we will probably be playing an all-ages show in Scarsdale, NY, sometime soon. Info will be posted on our site when it gets finalized.

How about tour plans?

Chris: I am in favor of planning for tours.

Sean: I’d like to tour the world with SBC.

Chris: Again, a beautiful answer, Sean.

Any last words, closing arguments?

Robert: We fucking love it.....A whole lot more than and way before McDonald's. Thanks for the interview.

Sean: SBC ROCKS LIKE NO OTHER.

Chris: Thanks for the interview. I think anyone who tries to keep some kind of a music scene alive in Westchester should be commended. We encourage all to visit our website, scottybrookscampaign.com, and partake of the free music therein. Then come see us at a venue near you and be rocked.
